How To Care For FTM Prosthetics

Tips for care FTM Prosthetics

Throughout my years of searching for the perfect prosthetic, there are a few must-do’s to make sure you are caring for your FTM prosthetics the correct way. Without these tips, you may find yourself not only out the money you spent but also ruining a packer can be a quick step away from dysphoria if you’re someone who experiences that! Let’s stay far away from that and go over these 4 tips for learning how to care for FTM prosthetics:

1. Storage Matters

First and foremost, if you’ve spent the money to get yourself this important prosthetic, you should definitely ensure it’s in a safe place that the dog can’t reach. Or worse, kids. Most people’s go-to is the underwear drawer but that is still pretty obvious in my opinion. You want it to be a spot that is away from frequent visits, protects the integrity of the product, and is out of harm’s way because a tear in your packer is less than enjoyable. Often they tear from getting hung on sharp objects like a zipper or an unsafe storage place with sharp areas like rogue nails in your underwear drawer! The great part about ordering prosthetics from Axolom is that your FTM prosthetics come with a storage box that is superior to any of the pouches or bags that have been sent before. It’s nice to see a business not only prioritize packaging but also choose the discreet color black for it.

2. Lubes

When you are able to bust out your wingman, you want to make sure you’re not going to destroy him physically or chemically? “Chemically, Aaron?” Yes. Silicone-based lubricants can easily destroy and degrade the surface are an enemy to your ftm prosthetics. Stick with water-based lubricants so you can be sure to keep the “skin” quality and realistic feeling to the touch. Also, water-based lubricants are compatible with latex condoms/dams/gloves and with all kinds of sex toy materials. That way you can focus on what matters!

3. Washing

Although it’s not my favorite task, due to dysphoria, washing ftm prosthetics is so important. These packers and stand to pee devices need attention and serious sanitizing since these are products that are going to be in such close proximity to some SERIOUSLY sensitive parts of the body. Please be sure to wash your wingmen daily if it’s a packer or STP device and you can do this a few different ways!

Hot, soapy water will usually do the trick thanks to the fact that 100% silicone products are not porous. Some people also choose to run theirs through the top rack of the dishwasher even! Of course, the ONLY way for that to even be an option is if you live alone or with a partner and don’t have any company that day!! You definitely want to have either a sneaky place to hide it while it air dries or it’ll be better and less stressful if you do it with no one home if that’s an option for you.

Finally, to ensure a full sanitization (weekly if you can) you can boil 100% silicone for 1-2 minutes. It will definitely be hot coming out so be careful but it will also be as sanitized as can be for the ultimate peace of mind.

4. Texture

If you find that the prosthetic is tacky and/or sticky after cleaning it, I recommend using cornstarch (or other rejuvenating powders) to maintain a smooth and silky texture. It can help bring your prosthetic back to life and feel most natural like when it first arrived! Especially if you have a packer that touches your skin or anatomy in your pants, you don’t want it to feel like a sticky rope is in your pants. The slight dusting of some cornstarch will do the trick! (Pro-Tip: A little bit goes a LONG way - if you use too much you’ll have a mess and white dusted ftm prosthetics!

You can also find specific silicone toy cleaners and rejuvenating powders if you’d rather use those to help you leave your products feeling as life-like as possible. It’s not required and honestly, I’ve had equal success with hot soapy water and cornstarch so keep that in mind when you are looking into purchase these products.
